Hospital food, UGH!

If you know me, I am usually on the “professional, stethoscope wearing, seeing patients in the clinic/hospital” side of health care.

Recently, I was on the other side of healthcare: the “waiting in a hospital before and during a loved one’s emergency surgery” side.

Waiting, waiting, waiting for surgery, then during.

Super stressful situation,

can you relate? I know you can.

I needed to eat, obviously, I needed to support myself so I could be present and help my family.

Did I find food that would help my body and mind deal with the stress, things like lean protein, healthy fats, fiber and the colors (phytonutrients) in fruits and veggies?

No.

What did I find in a health care facility?

JUNK. Processed food. SUGAR! Artificial colors. Preservatives. Artificial sweeteners. NO veggies. NO fruit. Protein? No.

This is a difficult thing I’m dealing with, my body and mind need all kinds of support when things get hard.

How am I, how are WE to support ourselves during these times?

Fortunately, I have knowledge and practices at ferreting out small ways to keep the nutrition and therefore support in my life.

This is just one tool I share with my patients and clients - what does support look like for you, and how can you bring in more of it?
