Think Artificial Sweeteners Are OK? Think Again.
Myth: “Artificial Sweeteners have no calories and are healthy for me. Better than eating sugar, they help me lose weight.”
FACT: Nothing could be further from the truth and evidence is mounting. The World Health Organization has issued a statement (About time!) advising AGAINST all “Non-nutritive Sweeteners” (NSS) such as acesulfame K, aspartame, advantame, cyclamates, neotame, saccharin, sucralose, stevia and stevia derivatives. These all have much cooler sounding brand names.
Many are neurotoxic, we’ve known that. There’s also evidence they DO NOT:
contribute to weight loss
reduce body fat in adults or kids
Evidence shows NSS are associated with a higher BMI, and may increase your risk for:
Type 2 Diabetes
Heart Disease
Death in Adults
